Quick guide
Compress PDFs and choose the right quality level
Use Text preserving mode to retain text, links and the original structure. Balanced and Small modes turn every page into a JPEG image for stronger compression, but text will no longer be searchable or selectable. The tool shows the actual size before and after compression.
What this tool does
- Choose Text preserving, Balanced, or Small mode.
- Adjust DPI, image quality, and grayscale.
- Process one PDF up to 200 MB; image-based modes support up to 300 pages.
- Read the PDF and create the result on your device without uploading PDF content to the VPS.
How to use Compress PDF
- 1Select a PDF and check its page count and original file size.
- 2Choose Text preserving mode when you need searchable or selectable text, or an image-based mode when a smaller file matters more.
- 3Compare the sizes, then open the new file and check its text, images, links and forms before using it.
Frequently asked questions
Why do some PDFs shrink only a little?
A PDF that is already optimized or contains mostly text may shrink only a little. The tool keeps the original file if the result would be larger.
Which mode keeps text searchable and selectable?
Use Text preserving mode. It restructures the file while keeping text selectable and searchable, but the size reduction may be modest.
What changes in Balanced and Small modes?
These modes render every page as a JPEG image, which can reduce image-heavy PDFs more. Selectable text, links and form fields will not work in the new file.
Why are image-based modes limited to 300 pages?
Rendering PDF pages as images can use several times the source file size in memory. Balanced and Small modes are therefore limited to 300 pages to reduce the risk of a frozen tab. Split longer PDFs or use Preserve text.
Is the PDF sent to or stored on the VPS?
No. Your browser reads, compresses and creates the PDF on this device. The VPS only serves the page, scripts and libraries; it does not receive, store or process PDF content.
